As mentioned in my previous post, I tested at home early and we got a huge positive! My first blood beta level was set for Tuesday September 6, which was after the September long weekend. It felt so far away as we knew we were positive a week before that. I called my doctor 5dp to let her know about my home tests and she bumped up my first beta to Friday September 2nd! I was so happy I didn't have to wait the weekend anymore. We were also going away for a night that weekend so it would have been so hard!
On the way home from the clinic that Friday, I received a call stating that I was definitely pregnant and that my first beta level was great! They said it was a great starting point and that they would check it again on Tuesday. The prayer for Tuesday is that the number would double by then. The numbers need to double roughly every 48 hours to show a viable ongoing pregnancy.
Over the weekend we went with family to Parry Sound to visit friends who lived on the lake. This was our first time we were with people knowing that we were pregnant. I was exhausted already! We had to be on point for keeping our secret under wraps! I was so tired that I ended up going to bed at 8pm and saying I worked the night before. It was one of the best sleeps of my life.
It was very difficult to come up with excuses as to why I wasn't swimming as we were on the lake. At the time, I had Estrogen patches on my abdomen along with two big black magic marker circles over each rear hip marking where I give my Progesterone injections...so it would have sparked questions! I simply said that I packed for winter as the weather was not looking like it was going to cooperate. I was so out of it-seriously. Even the items I packed didn't make sense. It reminds me of when Mitch packed the night of our wedding for our honeymoon and he was so tired it was all wool sweaters and pants...for Dominican.
Anyways, Tuesday morning came and I completed my blood work at the clinic. I was already home by the time they called me around 1130. They had great news that my number had more than doubled and was way higher than expected! SO MUCH PRAISE AND RELIEF! My Progerstone levels were also perfect, we were so thankful. This praise report of a great second beta level meant that this pregnancy couldn't be chemical and that our next step was a seven week ultrasound where we would hear the heartbeat. So much joy.
It was incredible to see that line get darker each day! It got so dark, that the HCG line was taking dye away from the control line! Super proud of our strong little Bryo. I am no longer taking home pregnancy tests, in case you thought I was just a little bit crazy ;) ^ This is normal for IVF moms!
Between three and in the middle of four weeks I had the typical symptoms. I was thankful to feel them all, it just made everything so real! Exhaustion, running out of breath already, totally bloated, forgetfulness, not feeling "in the game", slight nausea at times and more. Oh and bring on the chicken broth cravings! OH MY WORD, I had it for breakfast twice and I am consumed with all things broth and bouillon cubes. Also for the first time in my life, which is common as I have read...allergies! I ended up having seasonal allergies, congestion, runny nose, and itchy throat for the first time in my life during week four.
