official day 3 ultrasound and blood work are complete...here we go!

As you know from my last post, we found out this past Friday (April 29th) that we had the go ahead. I waited half a day for Mitch to get home before I told him, which was no problem. I'm not half bad at waiting these days! I have his reaction on video from when he saw our kitchen board. It is absolutely beautiful. He has been an incredible husband throughout this. He jumped on wanting to join me in the clinic yesterday even though I was only there for a total of 15 minutes! I am thankful to be doing life with that boy.

Yesterday morning we took our early trip to Toronto to arrive for 0700. It was so nice to head down  there on a Saturday as the roads are clear sailing! - not something Mitch is used to when he is working downtown. Our clinic is on the top, 15th floor of a building right downtown on Bloor Street. When we arrived at the building main lobby, someone was already down there to check us into their iPad...pretty fancy I'd say! They meet clients at the door on weekends as the rest of the building is not being occupied. We took the elevators upstairs and I had my ultrasound and blood work completed right away. The blood work is to measure all of my hormone levels. The levels indicate to the team when to begin my medication.

After, we met with our nurse, who is so lovely by the way. She is so sweet and always responds to emails fast, which I love. She sat down with us to go over a few details and we had my first prescription filled. Birth control actually. Never in my life did I think I would be on it again as it has probably been close to a decade! The simple way to explain why IVF patients go on birth control is to essentially calm the ovaries before stimulation (injections), like the calm before the storm. The ovaries go through a lot during that time, not only growing in size, but they are working overtime to develop a lot of growing follicles! I can't express enough how much I am looking forward to the storm!

My blood work and ultrasound were clear and everything was where it needed to be so I started the medication today. I will be on it until May 25th which is our pre stimulation assessment. On the 25th the consents are signed, payment is processed and blood and ultrasounds are taken. From that day forward it is a very busy few weeks. There are a lot of medications in the form of injection, blood work and ultrasounds every day. I will talk more about that as we get closer!

We are all organized and ready to do this as stress free as possible - and it is possible. I have my binder with all my information and emails, my IVF health plan as well as my treatment days and cycle information on the fridge!
